Microtia and Atresia Conferences
The Hear and Say Australian Microtia and Atresia Support Centre provides support, information and services to professionals, parents and children with microtia and atresia.
Hear and Say hosts the annual Australian Microtia and Atresia Conference at our Brisbane centre. World leaders and experts in the field come together for a weekend of presentations and consultations to support and educate both parents and professionals. This event also includes a Family Fun Day, providing a unique opportunity for children with microtia and their families to meet, connect and support each other.
Our Microtia and Atresia Conference is accessible with NDIS funding for parents who have children with NDIS plans. It is suitable for parents and professionals, and can be attended in person or viewed live online via “Zoom”.
This year we are excited to include a resilience and wellbeing group program for primary school aged children with microtia and atresia. This program addresses some of the issues that children with microtia and atresia often face in social settings by providing a safe and welcoming environment where they can learn and develop resilience, self-confidence and valuable social skills. It will run concurrently with the morning conference presentations.
In 2019 we have also hosted smaller, half-day mini conferences in both Sydney and Melbourne for the first time.
2019 Australian Microtia and Atresia Conference – Brisbane
At 9.10pm on 24 October 2013 our beautiful daughter Maia was born.
The moment of elation was short-lived as we immediately noticed her left ear was missing. I frantically looked to the medical team around me for answers but received none.
Panic set in as we waited 4 days in hospital for an ENT to explain her condition, by which point we already had all the answers from Simone, who runs the Microtia and Atresia Program at Hear and Say.
