Helping children to reach their full potential.

End of an Era for CEO, Chris

This edition we say a big farewell and heartfelt thanks to Chris McCarthy, who recently handed over the reins as Chief Executive Officer. Hear from Chris as he reflects on an incredible journey over almost 15 years.

“At Hear and Say we acknowledge the rare opportunity it is to watch, guide and support a family to help their child grow through their hearing journey.

I also know how uniquely fortunate I have been to be part of Hear and Say growing and flourishing, to have seen many children in our programs turn into young adults, and to have celebrated births, graduations, marriages and countless other life milestones.

It has also been a privilege to have been part of a team that has secured significant increases in government funding; supported the transition of our funding model to include Medicare and the NDIS; worked to streamline, design and deliver clinical programs; sent our people across the globe; secured a new Brisbane home and helped to continue to build the Hear and Say legacy.

To see the fledgling 16-year-old organisation I joined now as a confident and capable 30-year-old with still so much more to achieve in our community makes me exceedingly proud.

Hear and Say will always be one of my ‘villages’ and I am truly grateful to Dimity, the Board and our extraordinary team, families, donors, supporters and the broader community who have made my journey unforgettable. Thanks for the memories!”

Panic set in as we waited 4 days in hospital for an ENT to explain her condition, by which point we already had all the answers from Simone, who runs the Microtia and Atresia Program at Hear and Say.
