Supporting school and student success
Hear and Say supports schools to enhance the academic chances for all children by ensuring both child and the school are ready to listen and to learn.
Students struggling to hear in the classroom have specific needs and are at risk, if left un-diagnosed, of under-achieving without appropriate listening, speaking and language support.
School Setting Visit Service
The Hear and Say’s School Setting visits provide services to eligible deaf and hard of hearing children in Prep and Year One attending State, Catholic and Independent Schools, who have been enrolled in Hear and Say’s early intervention program through the Non School Organisations Program. The service is complementary to those supports the child is currently/or has received at Hear and Say as a part of Listening and Spoken Language Therapy and Audiology programs. The service provides information and specialist support for students transitioning into formal schooling.
Hear and Say are leaders in paediatric hearing services
Hear and Say can work with the school, teachers and parent groups to identify if students are hearing clearly.
Our team of audiometrists and screeners can conduct school hearing screening of students hearing as well as review the sound levels in class rooms providing the best listening environment for both the students and the teachers.
Depending on the outcome of Hear and Say’s visits to the school we can offer comprehensive assessment and management of a child’s hearing, no matter how mild or profound.
Enhancing listening in the classroom
Classrooms are noisy environments for the student and teacher. Hear and Say can assist schools to optimise sound levels in the classroom, thereby providing a more conducive learning environment.
Hear and Say’s skilled audiologists are available to visit your school to help determine what can be done to improve the classroom acoustics.
This analysis involves measurement of the sound level and reverberation (echo) in classrooms and auditoriums. A formal report with recommendations is provided.
Hear and Say WorldWide offers a variety of professional development opportunities, including training courses (containing over 20 lectures) for those wishing to become Listening and Spoken Language Specialists, as well as short courses, stand-alone lectures and conferences, all presented by qualified members of our highly experienced Clinical Team.
At 9.10pm on 24 October 2013 our beautiful daughter Maia was born.
The moment of elation was short-lived as we immediately noticed her left ear was missing. I frantically looked to the medical team around me for answers but received none.
Panic set in as we waited 4 days in hospital for an ENT to explain her condition, by which point we already had all the answers from Simone, who runs the Microtia and Atresia Program at Hear and Say.
