Communication and Education through Teamwork.
COMET is led by Hear and Say staff who are experienced workshop facilitators and specialise in paediatric auditory health. This includes Listening and Spoken Language Specialists, Audiologists and Senior Clinicians. In addition, Hear and Say also uses external services providers as part of the sessions to deliver valuable activities such as drama workshops.
Hear and Say is uniquely qualified to run the COMET program. Social skills programs of this nature have been part of Hear and Say’s service offering for over a decade and have been specifically tailored to meet the needs of the maturing demographic of children with hearing loss at Hear and Say.
Within the Comet sessions (which take place at a specialised Learning Activity Centre at Hear and Say’s Brisbane Centre), participants undertake several structured activities which encourage participation and require participants to work together in a practical demonstration of the value of the program’s themes.
By the end of the sessions, participants will have a greater knowledge of different facets of social skills including:
- anger management
- problem solving
Hear and Say is an NDIS provider and our COMET program is eligible to be funded by the NDIS.

At 9.10pm on 24 October 2013 our beautiful daughter Maia was born.
The moment of elation was short-lived as we immediately noticed her left ear was missing. I frantically looked to the medical team around me for answers but received none.
Panic set in as we waited 4 days in hospital for an ENT to explain her condition, by which point we already had all the answers from Simone, who runs the Microtia and Atresia Program at Hear and Say.
