Speech, Language and Development
We are experts in children’s speech, language and development.
Our speech pathologists and teachers of the deaf are all trained in the Auditory-Verbal Therapy approach (AVT). We work with children who are deaf or hard of hearing to hear through technology (like cochlear implants or hearing aids), to listen, process verbal language and speak.
Our goal is for all our children who are deaf or hard of hearing to grow up in typical learning and living environments and to live independently. Our families work with us to achieve great outcomes with 100% of children attending local schools.
Speech assessment and Occupational Therapy is available at a range of Hear and Say Centres across Queensland to test language development and gross motor skills.

At 9.10pm on 24 October 2013 our beautiful daughter Maia was born.
The moment of elation was short-lived as we immediately noticed her left ear was missing. I frantically looked to the medical team around me for answers but received none.
Panic set in as we waited 4 days in hospital for an ENT to explain her condition, by which point we already had all the answers from Simone, who runs the Microtia and Atresia Program at Hear and Say.
