Helping children to reach their full potential.

Opening worlds across the globe

As world-leading experts in hearing, listening and spoken language therapy, Hear and Say are changing the way the world thinks about, and treats children with hearing loss.

Since 2002, Hear and Say has trained hundreds of parents, students and professionals in the Auditory-Verbal approach through our WorldWide Professional Training program. For the past eight weeks, we have had the pleasure of hosting two Speech-Language Pathology students from The University of Akron, all the way from the state of Ohio, USA!

“Travelling across the world to Australia to learn more about what I love, Auditory-Verbal Therapy, was only a dream a year ago.

I am very thankful to now be living my dream, working with the team and families at the Brisbane Hear and Say Centre.

My favorite moment that I’ve had as Hear and Say was when I watched a child have their cochlear implant switched on for the first time. Seeing a whole new world of sound open up for a child was really special and brought me to tears.

Without a doubt, the work done at Hear and Say is extraordinary and priceless to the children and their families. Teaching children how to listen and speak is my passion, and I am excited to take all that I have learned at Hear and Say back to the States. Goodbye for now, Australia. I can’t wait to come back again!

“Being placed at the Hear and Say Centre has opened my eyes to a different side of Auditory-Verbal Therapy. From having the opportunity to shadow and work with Listening and Learning Spoken Language Specialists to observing children hear for the very first time has left me speechless.

All of the clinicians and staff that work at Hear and Say are truly special. They continue to work hard every day to change children and their families lives by providing them the support, care, and clinical expertise they need to listen and learn language.

My favorite moment at Hear and Say was seeing a child hear his first sounds and his parents’ reaction to the switch on was unforgettable. I am very thankful for this experience Hear and Say.”

We’ve loved having you as part of our team Mary and Kaitlyn! We look forward to seeing how you take all you have learnt at Hear and Say back to Ohio to open worlds for children with hearing loss across the globe.

Maia’s Story

At 9.10pm on 24 October 2013 our beautiful daughter Maia was born.

The moment of elation was short-lived as we immediately noticed her left ear was missing. I frantically looked to the medical team around me for answers but received none.

Panic set in as we waited 4 days in hospital for an ENT to explain her condition, by which point we already had all the answers from Simone, who runs the Microtia and Atresia Program at Hear and Say.
