How you can include a gift in your Will

Changing or making your Will is a simple process, regardless of what type of bequest you choose to make. Big or small, we are sincerely grateful for your support. You are making a real difference in the lives of babies born into a world without sound.

You can open worlds in just three easy steps:

  1. Make contact with your solicitor or legal advisor
  2. Change or create your Will to include your gift to Hear and Say
  3. Consider letting us know about your gift – we appreciate you may wish to remain anonymous, and we completely understand.

Reviewing your will

Life changes, and does your Will. It’s important to review your Will from time to time to ensure it remains binding, and so your legacy can make the impact you wish. Key milestones like marriage, children and grandchildren, separation or property investments are times where you may consider revising your Will.

What legal wording do you need to include?

The wording included within your Will changes depending on what type of bequest you choose to leave Hear and Say. The following information is a guide only, and we recommend you complete in consultation with your legal advisor.

Whole estate

When you leave everything you own to Hear and Say.

I give the whole of my estate (my residuary estate) to the Hear and Say – Centre for Deaf Children Limited absolutely for which an authorised receipt from Hear and Say – Centre for Deaf Children Limited (ABN 32 058 430 069) will be an absolute discharge to my executor .

A share of your estate

When you leave a portion or percentage of what’s left of your estate after you’ve taken care of your loved ones and expenses. It’s not a specific amount of money, so it gives you peace of mind no matter the final size of your estate.

I give a ___% share of my residuary estate upon trust for Hear and Say – Centre for Deaf Children Limited for charitable purposes thereof for which an authorised receipt from Hear and Say – Centre for Deaf Children Limited (ABN 32 058 430 069) will be an absolute discharge to my executor .”

A specific amount (Pecuniary gift)

When you give a set amount of money. Something you may wish to keep in mind is that pecuniary bequests may lose value over time due to inflation, so you may not end up giving as much as you like. We do appreciate gifts of all types and sizes.

I give free of all duties and charges the sum of $___ to Hear and Say – Centre for Deaf Children Limited for charitable purposes thereof for which an authorised receipt from Hear and Say – Centre for Deaf Children Limited (ABN 32 058 430 069) will be an absolute discharge to my executor .”

Meet Ruby
“People become so used to my processors and they often forget that I have a hearing loss. They sometimes think that because I have cochlear implants, I have top-notch hearing, which isn’t always true, particularly in noisy situations as it creates a harder environment to concentrate in and to have conversations.
Being deaf has its challenges, but something cool is that you get two worlds: a world of peace and a world of sound. Having these two worlds always reminds me of how grateful I am to be where I am now, and where I could be.”

16-year-old Ruby was born with severe to profound hearing loss in both ears. Thanks to early intervention, teaching her the skills to hear, listen and speak, she has grown up to love photography, baking and hanging out with her friends and family.
