Sunset Series

Our Sunset Series brings together professionals from across the medical and allied health sectors, together with families and the community, to network and share knowledge.

Topics have included Paediatric Vestibular Rehabilitation and Auditory Processing Disorder and Children with Hearing Loss and Additional Disabilities.

Videos are available for some sessions via our WorldWide Professional Development program, with AG Bell Academy for Listening and Spoken Language continuing education units (CEUs) and Audiology Australia Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points available. Join our upcoming webinar to learn more about Auditory Processing Disorder (APD). APD is when the ears process sound normally but the brain has difficulty processing the information. For example children with APD can hear but they sometimes have trouble understanding what they hear. Three highly specialised industry experts will present on three different aspects of APD.

  • The nature, identification and diagnosis of APD – presented by Professor Suzanne Purdy
  • The treatment of APD – presented by Dr Bill Keith
  • Treating auditory processing deficits in people with autism spectrum disorder – presented by Dr Joan Leung

During this live webinar, participants will hear from two highly skilled and experienced presenters on the below topics.

How to get the most from your NDIS Plan

Presented by Dr Megan Barr

Parents’ and professionals’ first-hand experiences with the NDIS, and how they’ve managed changes, will be shared in this presentation. Dr Barr will also address how to use NDIS funding to facilitate the best possible outcomes.

Speech perception and language outcomes for infants receiving cochlear implants

Presented Dr Shani Dettman

This presentation starts with exploring the evidence in support of early access to cochlear implants before 12 months, and before nine months of age. Dr Dettman will also discuss factors that impact current age-at-implant practice using an Implementation Science framework. This will then lead on to looking at what areas can be improved and who is responsible for this action.
